The Virtues and Health Aspects of Fasting

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is expected to commence on or around 16 May 2018.

By now, most non-Muslims in Britain are probably aware that during Ramadan Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. However, many of them are uncertain why Muslims do so.

For several years, our National Health Service has published a guide on how to fast safely during Ramadan without risking damage to your health. However, many Muslims have not come across this guidance.

Accordingly, we have organised an event which addresses both of these aspects, and which should be of great interest to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The details are below:

When: Monday 16 April at 18:30.

Where: Committee Room 4A, House of Lords, Palace of Westminster, London, SW1A 0AA.

Parliamentary Host: Lord Sheikh, President of the CMF.

Event Chair: Dr Alam Ara Khan, Chair of CMF Health.

Speakers:

  • Imam Ali Omar will cover the spiritual and religious aspects of fasting and the month of Ramadan. He is the Imam to HM Armed Forces. Imam Omar is based at Wellington Barracks London and lives in Newport, Wales. He has worked as a Muslim chaplain in HM Prison Service, NHS hospitals, higher and further education institutes and community chaplaincy in the UK. He is an experienced imam, teacher and counsellor.
  • Dr Anwara Ali, Medical General Practitioner and member of the CMF Executive, will cover the health aspects of fasting.

How to book: The event is free to attend, but you must book a place by emailing CMF Executive Secretary Shaheen Thantrey at mail@conservativemuslimforum.com

We look forward to seeing you there.
